Brighton offers more than just its famous pier and vibrant city life. For those who love the outdoors, it’s a gateway to some of the most scenic and rewarding walks along the southern coast of England.

Exploring the South Downs National Park
One of the highlights of walking near Brighton is the South Downs National Park. This vast area of rolling hills, chalk cliffs, and open fields stretches across the region and offers routes for all levels.
Many of our members enjoy starting here — the scenery is stunning, and the trails are easy to follow using apps like AllTrails.
Seven Sisters Cliffs: This iconic stretch of white chalk cliffs offers breathtaking views of the English Channel. The walk is moderately challenging but well worth it for the views.
Devil’s Dyke: Just outside Brighton, this deep valley offers panoramic views and a mix of easier and more challenging routes.
Ditchling Beacon: One of the highest points in the South Downs, with sweeping views — a great spot to stop and take it all in.
Often, people combine these walks with a pub stop or café along the way, making it a social day out as well.
Coastal Walks and Seaside Routes
Brighton’s coastline is full of beautiful walking routes — from quiet stretches of beach to scenic cliff paths.
Undercliff Walk: A flat and easy route between Brighton Marina and Saltdean, right along the sea. Perfect for a relaxed walk.
Rottingdean to Saltdean: A lovely mix of coastal views and village charm.
Brighton to Shoreham-by-Sea: A longer coastal route passing nature reserves and open landscapes.
These walks are ideal if you want something social and easygoing, often ending with a drink or food by the sea.
Walks Closer to the City
You don’t always have to go far to get outdoors — Brighton has plenty of green spaces for shorter walks.
Stanmer Park: A favourite for woodland walks and peaceful surroundings, just outside the city.
Preston Park: Wide open spaces and easy paths — great for a casual walk.
The Level: A smaller park, ideal for a quick stroll or meeting others.
