Poppy Walk at Castle Hill, Woodingdean (Self-Guided)


A relaxed early summer walk at Castle Hill Nature Reserve near Woodingdean, with the chance to see wild poppies in bloom. It’s a self-guided community walk — we’ll meet up and follow the route together using AllTrails (no guide or leader).


What to expect

The route follows open paths across the South Downs, with rolling hills, wide views, and a peaceful feel throughout. At this time of year, parts of the area can be covered in poppies and other wildflowers, depending on the conditions. We’ll keep an easy, social pace with time to stop and take it in.

Meeting point: Castle Hill Car Park (Woodingdean)

Getting there: Bus to Downs Hotel or Castle Hill Car Park (free parking available)

Terrain: Rolling hills, grassy paths, some climbs

Duration: Around 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace

Best time: Early to mid-June for poppies
